Forget Me 'Knot' - NEW Knitting Challenge
Published on 18 July 2025 12:56 PM

We're inviting our amazing supporters in Plymouth to pick up their knitting needles once again, but with a new twist!
About The Campaign
Following the incredible success of our recent innocent Big Knit campaign in Plymouth, where we were blown away to collect nearly 4,000 little hats… we’re thrilled to launch a brand new community challenge!
As we look ahead to World Alzheimer’s Month this September, we’re asking you to help us by knitting Forget Me Not flowers - the symbolic flower of awareness, remembrance and support for those living with dementia.
Why Forget Me Nots?
Each flower will act as a small but powerful symbol of support. By displaying them across the city and sharing them at our events, we hope to engage more people in understanding dementia, encouraging open conversations, and showing those affected that they are not alone.
For us at Age UK Plymouth, World Alzheimer’s Month is one of the most important times of the year. The more we understand dementia, the more we can help. Every small act of awareness helps us reach more people across Plymouth, offering support not to just those living with dementia, but their families and loved ones too.
Our Target
Our initial target is 500 flowers, but we’d love to collect even more! Every single one adds to the impact we can make during this important month.
Knitting Pattern
Don’t worry too much about the type of yarn - you can use whatever you have in your stash! Just be sure to use the recommended needle size for your chosen yarn. If you tend to knit tightly, try going up a needle size for best results.
For each flower, you’ll need:
- 2-3 yards of blue yarn for the pettles
- 1 yard of yellow yarn for the centre
Pattern
Knit Flower: There is only one row to this flower after you have cast on
Cast on 40 sts.
Row 1:
K1, Cast Off 6 (you should have 2 sts on your right needle)
K1, Cast Off 6 (you should have 4 sts on your right needle)
K1, Cast Off 6 (you should have 6 sts on your right needle)
K1, Cast Off 6 (you should have 8 sts on your right needle)
K1, Cast Off 6 (you should have 10 sts on your right needle)
Cut your yarn 8” long. Thread the ‘B’ tail through a tapestry needle and pull that needle through each of the remaining 10 stitches on your needle. Secure tail and stitch in place. Sew in ends.
Add yellow centre using any embroidery stitch you like to make a five-petal yellow centre. Satin stitch works well, or daisy stitch or French knots. Sew in ends.
