Volunteer organisers of Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin day centre in St Georges were delighted to receive a £100 grant from the Telford and Wrekin councillors’ Pride in our Community fund.
The fund provides ward members with the opportunity to allocate funding towards improvements or projects within their ward.
It’s been a tough year for St Georges day centre; it’s been closed throughout the pandemic but volunteer organisers have been a great support to their members during lockdown. They have kept morale up with regular phone calls and organising deliveries of goodie bags and afternoon teas.
The day centre was nominated for the grant by councillors Richard Overton (Chair of St Georges and Priorslee Parish Council) and David Wright (Councillor for St Georges). The money will be used to continue distribution of goodie bags and afternoon teas to the members of the day centre while they are still unable to meet due to the coronavirus pandemic.
