Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin’s fun and friendly dance sessions prove a real pick-me-up for older people.

‘This class has been a complete godsend,’ said one of the ladies during a break in the pirouetting at the Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin dance class in Shrewsbury.

‘It’s just so much fun and we all enjoy seeing each other. Everyone is so friendly and supportive.’

The sessions, held at the Morris Hall just across the road from Shrewsbury Market and Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin’s office, have been attracting people from as far afield as Wellington, Church Stretton and Ludlow.

One enthusiastic member said: ‘I used to do ballet when I was 15 and then didn’t do it again until I was 60, and I’m loving it.’

The group meets every Friday morning and men and women of any level of ability are welcome, as long as you're over 55.

Philippa Price, who runs the sessions, has tailored them especially for older people. Philippa says: ‘Whether you are a complete beginner or you used to dance when you were younger, we’d love you to come along and enjoy the positive impact on your fitness and health.’
