The volunteer organisers of Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin day centre in St Georges were delighted to receive a £400 grant from the Telford and Wrekin councillors’ Pride in our Community fund.

The fund provides ward members with the opportunity to allocate funding towards improvements or projects within their ward.

It’s been a tough time for St Georges day centre being closed throughout the pandemic but volunteer organisers have been a great support to their members during various lockdowns. They have kept morale up with regular phone calls and organising deliveries of goodie bags and afternoon teas.

The day centre was nominated for the grant by Councillors Richard Overton (Chair of St Georges and Priorslee Parish Council) and David Wright (Councillor for St Georges). This latest grant will be used to support the day centre’s running costs, as it reopens to provide company and entertainment to older members of St Georges community.
