From Llandudno to Shrewsbury Town FC

Older people enjoying afternoon tea at Montgomery Waters Meadow

Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin’s amazing team of volunteers who organised our Llandudno holiday have turned their hands to more local affairs.

The hotel that previously hosted the annual trip has now closed, but the team are determined to lay on some alternative activities for older people who will miss the popular week-away. Their first event was an afternoon tea party in May at the Montgomery Waters Meadow, home of Shrewsbury Town FC, to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

Attendees enjoyed plenty of delicious refreshments and there was a competitive table-top quiz, with the volunteers ensuring everyone had a lovely time.

Llandudno holiday volunteer Sheila Morris said: ‘We are delighted to be hosting this afternoon tea and bringing everyone together after such a long time. It’s a much needed opportunity for those who used to holiday with us to catch up with old friends, but also to make new ones who can come along on future outings with us.’

The Llandudno committee are now thinking about their next events; if you’d like to find out more about them, please call 01743 233 123 and leave a message and your phone number for the Llandudno volunteers, who will gladly return your call.
