Fun and friendship are at the heart of Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin’s new groups for older people in south Shropshire.

The groups in Albrighton, Much Wenlock and Ludlow will be run by Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin volunteers, who are welcoming new members now.

‘The ones in Albrighton and Much Wenlock are friendship groups and the one in Ludlow will be a chess group,’ said Karen Rawlings, from the Wellbeing services team at Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin. ‘Groups like this are so important as they offer older people opportunities to meet up with friends or make new ones from their community.’

Albrighton Friendship Group meets at Albrighton Library on the fourth Wednesday of the month, from 2.00-4.00pm. Hot drinks and biscuits are provided and it is free to attend, although there is a suggested donation of £2, to cover the cost of the refreshments.

Much Wenlock Friendship Group meets on the last Tuesday of the month, from 10.30am-12.30pm, with their first meeting taking place at the Pinefields Close Community Room on 30 January 2024.

Ludlow Chess Group meets at Ludlow Library every fortnight on a Friday afternoon, between 2.00-4.00pm. It’s free to attend and chess sets are provided, but players are welcome to bring their own if they prefer. Call our Wellbeing services team on 01743 233 123 for the date of the next meeting.
