Surprise party for singer

Frank Davies with his family

A veteran of one of Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin’s singing groups was thrilled when his friends threw a surprise garden party in his honour and burst into song with some of his favourite tunes.

Frank Davies, 88, had been an enthusiastic and regular member of the Acorn Singers, one of the Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin community choirs that do so much to boost the wellbeing of older people, but unfortunately Frank has had to stand down due to a change in circumstances.

With the help of his family, the garden party was organised and staged at Frank’s home in Admaston. ‘They sang all his favourite songs which was just so wonderful,’ says Claire Fishlock, Service Development Officer at Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin. ‘It was so moving and Frank was overjoyed. It was so much fun. Frank himself joined in with the singing, as did his family, and everyone had a great afternoon.’

‘After the event, we sat and chatted with Frank for a while over tea and cake laid on by the family. Frank really enjoyed talking to everyone again and you could just see how happy he was. Later he relayed to me that he was so touched by the thought and kindness of all who planned and attended this event for him.’

Claire added: ‘An extra huge thanks to Adrian and all at the Acorn Singers for being a part of this for Frank. They really created some wonderful memories for him.’

The Telford-based Acorn Singers, a dementia friendly group, meet every week at Hadley Community Centre. If you’d like to join, or just want to find out more, call Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin’s Wellbeing team on 01743 233 123 or email them at enquiries@ageukstw.org.uk
