Age UK North Shropshire Supporters Group formed over 10 years ago, and during this time, the dedicated team of volunteers have raised over £50,000 to support older people in North Shropshire.

Ellesmere Town Councillor Anne Wignall, who leads the fundraising group, has always had a passion and enthusiasm to help the older population within the local area. Anne said: ‘When I first got involved with Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin I was shocked to hear that so many older people just don’t get the support they need to live happily and independently in their own homes and loneliness is a huge issue in our county, particularly in the more rural parts of Shropshire.’

‘I wanted to do something to help and the North Shropshire Supporters Group has been going from strength to strength, each year holding fun and interesting fundraising events. We have a fantastic team of volunteers, all of whom lead busy lives but want to give something back to the community.’

To date the volunteers have raised an astonishing £50,000 to support those who need it the most.

Catherine McCloy, Head of Income Generation at Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin said: ‘The North Shropshire Supporters Group are a lovely bunch of volunteers, we have so much fun, the volunteers work so hard to put on an outstanding event every time, and raise much needed funds to help local older people. We are eternally grateful for what they do and astounded by all the money they have raised so far, a huge thank you from all of us at Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin.’
