Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin gave would-be volunteers a warm welcome at their Volunteers’ Week open day last week.

People interested in volunteering for a range of roles were able to chat with team managers about what was involved.

‘There was a real buzz of excitement in the office as people popped in for a chat about the different roles we have to offer, and the fun and personal satisfaction of being a volunteer,’ said Wellbeing Services Manager Emma Wilde.

Roles available included visiting an older person at home to provide companionship and help combat loneliness, becoming a telephone buddy or organising a fund-raising event. Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin is also looking for people who could help to provide a great day out by lending a hand at one of their day centres or dementia support groups.

Emma continued: ‘It was just so good to see so many people turn up to find out more about volunteering and the tremendous amount of good our volunteers do right across Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin. Everyone was so enthusiastic and keen to help.’
