We’re marking our 75th anniversary in style this year, with some brilliant fundraising events. Our goal is to raise £75,000 to help tackle loneliness among older people right across the county.

3 Peaks Breidden Hill Challenge

On Sunday 17 August, 75 adventurous walkers laced up their boots and took on the 3 Peaks Breidden Hill Challenge. It was no small feat, an 8-mile walk climbing 2,000 ft. But the reward? Tea, cake, and that unbeatable feeling of doing something great. Together, they raised a fantastic £1,155.

A song from the heart

To celebrate the milestone, the Acorn Singers have recorded a special song called ‘Shropshire My Home’, a touching take on ‘Cornwall My Home’ by Fisherman’s Friends. You can watch the video and listen to the song on our YouTube channel. The Acorn Singers have also started performing it at local events, including Telford Carnival, so keep an ear out.

Cycle for 75

Later this month, we’ve got a scenic cycling event lined up, in partnership with Shrewsbury Town Council. Riders will head off from Shrewsbury Sports Village and cover a picturesque 75km route. We’re asking participants to try and raise £75 in sponsorship, and everyone’s welcome, no matter your cycling experience. For more information on the event visit the Cycle for 75 Eventbrite page.

A glamorous evening for a great cause

Get your posh frock ready! Julie Kaur, Chair of our Trustees, and Kim Gilmour from Connect Consultancy are planning the Posh Frocks Charity Dinner, happening at Hadley Park House Hotel in Telford on Friday 17 October. Around 100 ladies are expected to attend, and all the proceeds from the Grand Hamper Prize Draw will go straight to Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin’s 75th anniversary appeal. Tickets for the charity dinner are available now through Kim’s Connect Consultancy website.

Putting their best foot forward

Members of our Kushdil day centre in Telford have organised a 75-minute sponsored walk to raise funds for the appeal.

Fundraising your way

Our supporters clearly love a challenge, and now we’ve made it even easier to get involved. We’ve added new ideas to our website for ways you can get moving and raise money at the same time. Whether you want to walk, run, cycle, or swim for 75 miles, minutes, or laps, we’ve got you covered, and if you prefer something more laid back, we’ve got plenty of fun, easy-to-organise ideas too.
