The latest community coffee morning at The Saddlers pub in Shrewsbury has raised £230 for Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin, bringing local people together for a morning of friendship, fundraising and fun.
Held on Thursday 29 October, the event saw residents and supporters come together to enjoy refreshments, browse a bring and buy sale and support a great local cause.
The Saddlers’ monthly coffee mornings are all about bringing people together while shining a spotlight on a different local charity or community group. This month, the event put the focus on Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin and how it helps older people to be independent, socially connected, supported and informed.
The event was organised with the help of local residents and charity supporters, alongside Margaret Philips, landlady of The Saddlers. Guests were treated to delicious cakes and snacks generously provided by the Food Hub, while the bring and buy sale gave visitors another opportunity to support the fundraising.

Emma Wilde, Interim Head of Wellbeing and Friendship Services at Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin, attended the coffee morning and chatted with visitors about the charity’s work and the services available to older people across the county.
Emma said: “What a fantastic morning of community spirit! It was wonderful to see so many people come together at The Saddlers, enjoying a hot drink and a chat while helping to raise money for local older people. We are hugely grateful to Margaret for hosting the coffee morning and to everyone who helped make it such a success.”
“Most of all, thank you to everyone who came along and supported the event. Raising £230 is a brilliant result, and every penny will help us continue our work supporting older people across the local area.”
The success of the coffee mornings demonstrates the impact that local community events can have for a small, local charity. A simple morning of coffee, cake and conversation has not only raised valuable funds but also created a welcoming space for people to connect and find out more about support for older people in their community.
