Siobhan WilliamsSiobhan Williams is the first person to run the London Marathon for Age UK Wirral.

Here, she explains why she has chosen our charity. "A year ago if you said to me I would be running a marathon in a month I would have laughed. Now with the miles ramping up in my training it is a reality. I’m slightly terrified but extremely excited. Running a marathon has always been a dream of mine and what an incredible one to do as my first – the 2018 London Marathon.

I have always watched the London Marathon in awe, not only of the elite runners, but the thousands of runners of all shapes and sizes. I was enthralled by the personal stories and the incredible charities people run and raise money for. To help me over the line I’m fundraising for a charity very close to my heart.

In 2014 my Grandma was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. I have lived with my grandparents from the age of eight and it’s been devastating to watch a loved one slip away day by day. She was a proud, independent woman who now requires 24-hour care. Age UK Wirral has provided a respite for our family.

They are an independent, local charity which offers a wide range of services for older people living on the Wirral. My grandma started going to the day care service a couple of times a week and the change has been phenomenal. The staff are incredible and there hasn’t been a day since that my Grandma doesn’t leave in a brilliant mood with a smile on her face. The service is an independent charity and without our donations they wouldn’t be able to offer the service they do. Having this opportunity to give something back to Age UK Wirral means a huge amount to me, and I can’t wait to cross the finish line for them. To support Siobhan and help her raise money for Age UK Wirral, please donate at https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/SioWilliams"

The Marathon takes place on Sunday 22 April and she'll be setting off at 10 am.  We wish Siobhan the very best of luck.
