At Age UK Bolton, we know that something as simple as sharing food and conversation can bring people together and make a real difference to wellbeing. 

Our monthly afternoon tea offers older people a chance to socialise, make new friends, and enjoy a warm and welcoming environment. We're looking for a friendly and reliable volunteer to help prepare sandwiches and refreshments that help make these sessions special. 

About the role

As a kitchen assistant volunteer, you'll play an important part in ensuring our afternoon tea sessions run smoothly. You'll help prepare sandwiches, organise refreshments, and support the kitchen area while working alongside staff and other volunteers. 

Your contribution will help create a welcoming experience where older people can enjoy good food, friendship and conversation. 

What you'll be doing

Preparing refreshments 

  • Prepare sandwiches and simple food items for afternoon tea
  • Help organise serving trays, crockery and refreshments 
  • Ensure food is prepared and presented to a high standard 
  • Support the preparation of hot and cold drinks 

Supporting the kitchen 

  • Help maintain a clean, tidy and organised kitchen environment
  • Wash up and clean equipment after use 
  • Follow food hygiene and health and safety procedures 
  • Assist with setting up and clearing away before and after sessions 

Supporting the team 

  • Work alongside staff and volunteers to ensure refreshments are ready on time 
  • Help create a welcoming and friendly atmosphere 
  • Be a positive and supportive member of the volunteer team 

Who this role is perfect for

We're looking for someone who is:

  • Friendly, reliable and enthusiastic 
  • Comfortable working as part of a team 
  • Organised and willing to follow instructions 
  • Passionate about supporting older people within the community 
  • Enjoys preparing food and helping others 

No previous experience is necessary as training and support will be provided.

Time commitment 

Our afternoon tea is held on the last Thursday of each month, 2.00pm - 4.00pm.

We'd ask you to be there from 12.30pm to start preparing food.
