Mixed crafts volunteer
Join us in creating connection, creativity and community
At Age UK Bolton, we believe ageing well is about staying connected, feeling valued, and enjoying meaningful moments together.
Our Mixed Crafts Group is more than just a creative session—it’s a welcoming space where friendships grow, confidence builds, and people feel part of something special.
We’re looking for a friendly, enthusiastic volunteer to help bring this space to life.
About the role
As a Mixed Crafts Volunteer, you’ll play a key role in shaping the experience of everyone who attends. Much like a front-of-house presence, you’ll help create a warm, inclusive and well-organised environment where older people feel comfortable to relax, socialise, and express themselves creatively.
Whether someone is a lifelong crafter or trying something new for the first time, your encouragement and presence will help them feel welcomed, included and inspired.
What you'll be doing
You’ll help support both the people and the space, including:
Creating a welcoming experience
- Greet everyone with a friendly, approachable manner
- Help people feel at ease, especially those who may feel nervous or new
- Build positive relationships and encourage conversation and connection
Supporting activities
- Help set up and prepare materials so sessions run smoothly
- Encourage participants to get involved at their own pace
- Offer support with crafts (no expert skills needed—just enthusiasm!)
- Help tidy and reset the space after sessions
Helping the session run smoothly
- Work alongside staff and other volunteers to keep things organised
- Support a calm, safe and enjoyable environment for everyone
- Share ideas or feedback to help the group continue to grow
Who this role is perfect for
You don’t need to be a craft expert—we’re looking for people who are:
- Friendly, patient and approachable
- Passionate about helping others feel included
- Great listeners who enjoy chatting and connecting with people
- Reliable and happy to be part of a team
- Interested in creativity, wellbeing, or community work
Why volunteer with us?
At Age UK Bolton, you’re not just volunteering—you’re becoming part of a community that values you.
You’ll gain:
- The chance to make a real difference to someone’s day
- New connections and a sense of belonging
- Experience supporting community activities
- Opportunities to build confidence and try new things
- The satisfaction of helping reduce loneliness and improve wellbeing
Like all our roles, you’ll be supported in a positive, inclusive environment where your contribution truly matters.
