The Big Eat
Did you know that February is the loneliest time of the year? The holidays are over and spring is still a long way off. Let’s make February a time to come together for a good cause!
We want the Bristol community to gather together friends, family and neighbours for a dinner party or tea and cake. Host a get-together and ask your guests to make a donation to Age UK Bristol. By you raising money from having a good time with friends and family we can help to reduce loneliness within the older community in Bristol.
Would you like to host a coffee and cake morning with your neighbours? Maybe a curry and board game night with your friends? You could make a posh 3-course meal and really show off your culinary skills for Age UK Bristol! It doesn’t matter if you raise £5, £50 or £500. All funds raised will go to supporting older people in Bristol. We have also created a poster that you can use to invite people to your event, please see the download link at the bottom of this page!
The money raised will help fund our services and in particular our telephone befriending service. This service provides a weekly phone call to an isolated older person in Bristol. Our volunteers provide companionship, a welcome chat and can also offer information about services and activities in the neighbourhood. Just by offering a supportive, listening ear can really help us reduce loneliness, which is our main aim with this service! We would love to see what you do for your Big Eat!
You can share photos on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter with #TheBigEat and tag us @ageukbristol to help spread to word and so we can see all of your amazing food! If you are interested in becoming a telephone befriender or you would like to receive calls please contact: Toni Wood on 0117 987 8428 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
More information on our telephone befriending service can be found here.
