Research Forum oh Ageing: Age-Friendly Communities

On Monday 20th July 2026, we were delighted to host our Research Forum on Ageing at the Watershed, bringing together researchers, organisations and community members, committed to improving later life across our communities. This iteration of the event focused on 'Age-Friendly Communities and Practice'. 

We were fortunate to hear from an inspiring range of speakers, including:
Paul McGarry, Head of Greater Manchester Ageing Hub
Nazia Azad, Centre for Ageing Better
Robina Ahmed and Helen Laird, Leeds Ageing Well programme

We also shared local examples and insights from:
Carol Watson and Karen Ross, South Gloucestershire Council
Carly Urbanski, Age UK Bristol
Kay Libby, Age UK Bristol

The discussions highlighted the importance of evidence, partnership working and lived experience in creating Age-friendly communities and tackling the challenges and opportunities of an ageing population.

A huge thank you to our research forum partners University of Bristol and University of the West of England for their collaboration and support in making this event possible.

The feedback from attendees was that this was an inspiring and impactful event, featuring local acomplishments as well as sharing what has worked further afield.
