Slip into Slippers 2019

Published on 29 July 2019 01:19 PM

For the first time Age UK Cambridgeshire and Peterborough is launching an autumn campaign - Slip into Slippers, a fun  way of showing appreciation for older people in our community.

This October, we are inviting schools, businesses, clubs and communities to participate in a Slip into Slippers Day, where staff, pupils, employers, employees, members and the public will be able to enjoy a day in their comfy slippers in return for a £1 donation to Age UK Cambridgeshire and Peterborough. The campaign day is not only about raising vital funds to support our local charitable services, but also to challenge stereotypes and possibly negative attitudes towards older people, to raise awareness and to celebrate the positive contributions older people make in our communities.

Our foucs day with be the first Friday in October, every year - this year it is Friday 4th October 2019. The date has been specifically chosen to aslo recognise 2 events that celebrate Older People:

  1. United Nations International Day of Older Persons (UNIDOP), held on 1st October each year. Slip into Slippers Day will celebrate older human rights and those who champion them worldwide.
  2. Grandparents Day held on the first Sunday each October (this year 6th),  where Grandchildren and Grandparents can celebrate the day by spending time together.

Please do join our campaign and encourage others to join. Share your photos wearing your slippers using #SlipintoSlippers #AgeukcapSlippers #ValueOlderPeople #GrandparentsDay and tag us @ageukcap.
