The much‑loved Bretton Friendship Club is proudly celebrating its 20th anniversary, marking two decades of bringing companionship, activities, and support for older people in Bretton, Peterborough.
Founded in 2006, the club has grown into a vibrant weekly meeting place run entirely by dedicated volunteers and supported by Age UK Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, with vital funding from Peterborough County Council. What began as a small community initiative has blossomed into a key local lifeline that continues to enrich the lives of its members.
At the heart of the club is Lana, the Volunteer Club Co‑ordinator, whose passion and commitment have helped sustain and grow the group. She is supported by a hardworking team of volunteer cooks and organisers, who ensure sessions are welcoming, sociable, and filled with activities that members look forward to each week.
Over the years, the Bretton Friendship Club has offered far more than a place to meet. Members enjoy a wide range of activities including bingo, quizzes, group games, shared meals, day trips, holidays, and social outings. These experiences provide not only entertainment but also meaningful connection, helping reduce loneliness and increase wellbeing for older adults in the community.

Age UK Cambridgeshire and Peterborough also praised the commitment of the volunteer team and the ongoing support from the council, recognising the club as a shining example of local partnership and community spirit.
The Bretton Friendship Club welcomes new members and continues its mission to provide a warm, inclusive environment for older people to socialise, stay active, and enjoy life.
