Did you know we are an independent charity?

Did you know we’re an independent charity?

Many people are surprised to learn that we’re a separate charity from the national organisation, Age UK. While we proudly share the Age UK brand and work closely as part of the wider network, we are an independent local partner.

This means we have our own Board of Trustees, and we design and deliver services specifically for older people living in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough.

Because we’re independent, we also raise all of our own funds locally to provide these vital services. Every bit of support we receive directly helps older people in our community.

We’ve created this short one‑minute video to help explain how local Age UK Brand Partners work. Many people are surprised to learn that when they donate to the national charity, Age UK, their local Age UK charity doesn’t directly receive those funds.

As an independent local charity within the Age UK Network, we’re proud to be part of a wider family while retaining our own governance and responsibility for raising the funds that support older people in our community. Although we enjoy a strong and positive relationship with the national charity, only around 0.4% of our income comes from Age UK nationally.

The vast majority of our funding is raised locally. We’re incredibly grateful to the statutory bodies, businesses, community groups, and individuals who choose to support us—because that local support enables us to help approximately 2,000 older people every week.

If you’d like to donate, fundraise, or offer support to your local Age UK Network Partner, simply check the place name in the Age UK logo. This shows you’re supporting an independent local charity delivering services in your own area.

There are many ways you can donate to Age UK Cambridgeshire and Peterborough. Please see our Get Involved page to see how you can support us.

Please give locally and directly to Age UK Cambridgeshire and Peterborough
