No one should have no one to turn to

Published on 05 November 2018 11:59 AM

Who do you turn to when times get tough?

Your partner, perhaps. Or your family and closest friends. The people you can rely on.The people who are always there for you.

Imagine if you had no one to turn to.

No one to ask when you just don't know what to do next. No one to be there for you when you're facing a crisis. No one to talk to when you're feeling desperately lonely.

Over 2.5 million older people in the UK feel they have no one to turn to for help and support.

For millions of older people, this is the reality. Every day. Even on Christmas.

We are here - this film highlights some of the challenges that people have to deal with in later life but which are often so much harder to bear especially when facing them alone. These include coping with bereavement, tackling loneliness, getting the social care you need and managing health problems like dementia.

At Age UK Dacorum, we believe no one should have no one to turn to. Not at Christmas. Not ever.

With your help we can work to make sure no one struggles without the support they need.

Here in Dacorum we’re working as hard as we can all year round to help older people face the different challenges that growing older brings.

Christmas Gift Appeal

Christmas lunches

Every Christmas we hold Christmas lunches for older people who belong to our schemes. For many it will be the only lunch they receive especially the isolated older people on the Befriending and Telephone schemes. At these lunches, if possible, we try to provide them with a small gift.

We are appealing for donations of gifts and raffle prizes which can be given out at our Christmas lunches.

Items that would make ideal gifts are packets of biscuits, cakes, sweets, chocolate bars, soap, tissues, shampoo, toothpaste, shower gel, body lotion, shaving foam, gloves, scarves and socks.

Please bring your donations and gifts to our office - Age UK Dacorum, Half Moon Yard, High Street, Hertfordshire HP1 3AE.

For more information or if you have a query please call 01442 259049.
