COVID-19: Our Support Services

We are in unprecedented times. The Coronavirus Pandemic has impacted all our lives.  As a local charity for older people and their carers we are determined to support and protect the vulnerable in our community the best way possible.

We are offering support with the following services:

Card
Extended Befriending Service   which will consist of
(1) friendly, regular telephone calls to see how people ar.e and if they have any concerns
(2) telephone calls to chat, provide a listening ear, and assistance, wherever possible for people who are having problems.

Shopping and prescription collection     
This service offers shopping and prescription collection to older vulnerable people who do not have existing support ie. for people (self-isolating or shielding) who are not able to do it themselves or do not have anyone else to do it for them.

Volunteers- emergency support
We have responded to the current crisis by increasing the number of volunteers we recruit to support the clients who require assistance. We aim to provide help within a couple of days. All our volunteers delivering emergency shopping will have IDs and are DBS checked. Please contact us if you have doubts about unauthorized volunteers from Age UK Dacorum.  Prospective volunteers will be asked to produce proof of a current DBS certificate with which we can verify with a photo ID (passport/driving licence).

Community digital support
During this lockdown, many of us are relying on digital technology to help us stay connected to others. The Internet cafe/club where we hold our Community Digital Drop-in sessions is physically shut. However, we are keeping a channel open (email support) so that our regular users (new users welcomed) can still contact us. Please email your problems or queries to us at Digitalhelp@ageukdacorum.org.uk.
