Lifetime Achievement For 2 Volunteers

Published on 16 February 2023 12:45 PM

Long-time Age UK Enfield volunteers Gaynor Jipps and Colin Fredericks have been recognised for their work by Enfield Council and have been presented with  Lifetime Achievement Volunteering Awards.    Our congratulations to them both.

Gaynor Jipps has been a volunteer since 2004 for Age UK Enfield’s Fit for Life Project.   She started initially as a client at the Old Edmonton Leisure Centre and attended the Senior Circuits and Aqua Aerobics Class.   After a year, she started taking the weekly registers and arrive early to set up the class as well as settingup refreshments at our Line Dancing class.

Gaynor is always willing to help out at short notice and has given staff at the Charity a great deal of support over the years and is not only a reliable volunteer but has become a firm friend too.

Gaynor is such a trooper and shows so much commitment to Age UK Enfield and the classes we organise and deserves to be recognised for all the good work she does including the preparation of Christmas parties of various classes.

Despite recently breaking her ankle she's still helping out.

Colin Fredericks has been a volunteer since 2011 for Age UK Enfield’s Fit for Life Project.  He started as a client participating on our weekly walks at Whitewebbs and Trent Park but not long after, he offered to help lead on both walks.   For 12 years he has given up his Wednesday afternoons and Friday mornings to support these walks.

Colin now leads the walk for the leisure strollers at Whitewebbs, this gives older people who are slower walkers or who have slight mobility issues the opportunity to join in the walk and also feel included as part of the walking community.

Over the years Colin has also supported the charityby helping with mailouts and during the Covid pandemic he volunteered to deliver our Fit for Life exercise booklets and exercise bands to the local residents to encourage our clients to continue to exercise at home.
