A friendly place to talk, listen and feel heard
Sometimes, it helps to have a space where you can talk openly about how you’re feeling and know that someone is listening.
Changes in later life, such as bereavement or changes to our health, can affect our confidence and emotional wellbeing. You may be feeling lonely, worried about the future or simply missing the chance to talk with others.
Age UK Hertfordshire’s Listening Room offers a safe, welcoming space to share what’s on your mind and meet other people who may have similar experiences.
What is the Listening Room?
The Listening Room brings older people together in a small, supportive online group through Zoom.
It builds on our InTouch telephone support service, where our team sees how valuable it can be to have someone take the time to listen. These same listening skills help create a relaxed group environment where everyone has the opportunity to feel heard.
You can share as much or as little as you feel comfortable with. There is space to talk, but you are just as welcome to listen.
Support to join online
You don’t need to feel confident with technology to take part.
Our volunteer Digital Champions can help you get connected and show you how to join a Zoom meeting, giving you time to practise and ask questions.
If you don’t have a suitable digital device, we may be able to provide one through the Good Things Foundation’s National Device Bank.
Would you like to find out more?
If the Listening Room sounds like something you would enjoy, or you know someone who might be interested, we’d love to hear from you. Please get in touch to find out more about joining and the support available.

Could you become a Digital Champion?
We’re looking for friendly, patient volunteers to help older people access the Listening Room.
You don’t need to be a technology expert. If you’re comfortable using a digital device and Zoom, and happy to explain things at someone else’s pace, we’d love to hear from you.
You could help someone build their confidence with technology so they can join the group and take part comfortably.
