North Herts College

Students from North Herts College are gaining valuable experience with Age UK Hertfordshire by completing placements at our community lunch clubs across the county.

As a local charity supporting older people in Hertfordshire, we're proud to offer meaningful placements that give students the opportunity to learn in a real community setting while making a positive contribution to the lives of our club members.

Our lunch clubs are welcoming, friendly places where older people come together to enjoy a meal, take part in activities and spend time with others. For students studying health and social care and related subjects, they provide the chance to build confidence, develop communication skills and understand the importance of person-centred support.

Many of our placement students tell us that spending time with older people has helped them grow in confidence. They've learned that sometimes the biggest difference comes from taking the time to chat, listen and get to know someone.

The experience is just as rewarding for our club members. They enjoy meeting the students, sharing stories and encouraging them as they begin their careers. During our latest visit, members spoke warmly about the students' enthusiasm, compassion and willingness to get involved, showing that the placements benefit everyone involved.

Working with North Herts College is something we value enormously. Supporting students at the start of their careers is a privilege, and we hope their time with us inspires them as they move into future roles in health, social care and the community sector.
