Age UK Hertfordshire are delivering winter welfare checks between October and March, (funded by the Crisis Resilience Fund via HCC). This service provides light touch support to older and vulnerable Hertfordshire residents who are unable to stay warm and safe in their home over the colder months.
Who this service is for
This service is for older and or vulnerable residents living in Hertfordshire who are perhaps living in hardship or where their health and safety will be at risk without this support.
What we provide
As part of assessing every referral, we get in touch with the resident directly by phone to understand their situation and make sure any support we arrange is right for them.
Some examples of how we can help:
• Fit foils behind radiators mounted on external facing walls
• Sealing drafty windows and door (P strip foam or Silicone Tape)
• Replace blown bulbs with low energy light bulb/night lights
• Provide items such as winter duvets, electric blankets, portable heaters (if appropriate)
• Clean radiator fins to maximise radiator efficiency
• Help take meter readings and set heating timings and thermostats
• Provide advice on ways to stay warm in colder temperatures
