Befriending Week 2025
Published on 03 November 2025 08:56 AM
Befriending Week is the national campaign celebrating and raising awareness of befriending and the positive impact it has on individuals and communities.
Every year, from 1st - 7th November, communities gather online and in person to:
- say thank you to their volunteers and staff
- share their befriending stories
- recruit new befrienders
- raise awareness about their service
- raise the profile of befriending
- and have a great time!
The theme for 2025 is Collaboration and Partnerships
Uncovering the power of working together
Age UK Northamptonshire provides a free Telephone Befriending Service to older people living in Northamptonshire. A volunteer befriender who has been DBS checked will ring you up, on a regular basis and at a time that suits you both, to have a chat and to see that things are generally well with you.
Joyce says “Sheila is wonderful to talk to, so helpful and gets things done. I'm very pleased with the service as I'm very often on my own.”
Susan says “Rebecca is a very good listener. I can talk to her about whatever I like. If I did not have her to talk to I would have given up by now.”

Richard says “Peter is friendly and interesting, I certainly benefit from his calls as I don't see many people.”
Joan says “She [Lesley] alleviates my loneliness."
Pamela says “It's nice to have someone [Anita] to talk to who isn't family. I am very happy with the service.”

Janet says "It's nice to hear Becki's voice and have a chat. Nice to know someone is there for me."
J
ohn says “My wife is in a home so it's nice to have someone to talk to and she asks me about my wife. If I felt down in the dumps I would 100% talk to Kelly.”
Could you make a weekly telephone call?
