A last-minute place in the popular Market Drayton 10K created the perfect opportunity for one Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin staff member to help local older people.

On Sunday 12 May, Tina Erskine, our Fundraising & Marketing Officer, put on her running shoes and joined the 1000s of people at the starting line on the Grove School playing fields in Market Drayton.

Tina enjoyed the whole experience: ‘What a glorious day for a run! The sunshine brought loads of spectators out onto the streets, providing fantastic support. It was such a well-organised event, helped brilliantly by a great bunch of volunteers. I ran it with my friend Kate in 1hr 6mins, not bad for a last-minute entry!’

‘I’m so glad I managed to get a place because my challenge has raised an incredible £720 in support of the fantastic work done by Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin! Huge thanks to everyone who has generously supported me, and this fabulous charity. It’s amazing what can be achieved when people pull together.’

Heather Osborne, Chief Executive of Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin, is delighted at the boost to funds: ‘More and more people like Tina are realising the win-win benefits of fundraising through challenge events. People’s generosity constantly amazes us and we are very grateful for it, as our statutory funding continues to reduce whilst the number of older people in the county increases at double the national average rate.’

If you would like to take on a challenge and help to support the growing number of older people in Shropshire  and Telford, please get in touch with our fundraising team on 01743 233 123 or enquiries@ageukstw.org.uk
