The Orchard Singers on Zoom

This Christmas, Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin will be one of the local charities benefiting from the support of 'Carols on the Doorstep'.

My Shrewsbury Magazine and Shropshire Festivals are inviting people to stand on their doorsteps and sing together in time to a backing track which will be broadcast by BBC Radio Shropshire on Wednesday 16 December 6.00-7.00pm.

Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin’s choir the Orchard Singers are taking part too. Normally the group would meet every week but due to the pandemic they started having choir practice sessions over Zoom. The choir has spent a couple of weeks practicing and recorded a special cover of Silent Night to share across our website and social media.

Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin would like to thank Adrian Plant, Musical Director and Harry Johnson, Technical Facilitator and members of the Orchard Singers and Zoomers for their hard work in putting the recording together.

Heather Osborne, Chief Executive of Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin, said: ‘Doorstep Carols is such a lovely event with communities across the county joining in. This will be a great morale boost for older people living in those communities who may have felt lonely, they can stand on their doorstep and listen or join in the carol singing. We thank the organisers for choosing us as a local charity to receive donations to support older people.’

To keep updated and share details about the event on social media follow @DoorstepCarols on Facebook and Twitter. Words and sheet music are available for download on their website and we’re encouraging everyone taking part to make a donation to one of the local charities of their choice via the Doorstep Carols website. The festive initiative aims to raise money for Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin, Shrewsbury Food Hub, Shropshire Mind and Telford Crisis Support Network.
