This May, Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin’s lovely team of Llandudno holiday volunteers would like to invite previous holidaymakers and older people in Shropshire and Telford to afternoon tea.

The volunteers are inviting local older people to join them at the Shrewsbury Football Club between 2.00-4.00pm on Tuesday 24 May, to enjoy a traditional afternoon tea with sandwiches, warm savouries and lots of scones and cake. There’s also a chance to win the quiz or a prize from the raffle!

The Llandudno holiday has not taken place for the past two years, due to a hotel closure and the coronavirus pandemic and as the current situation is still very uncertain, the decision has been taken that the holiday will not go ahead in 2022 either.

To remedy this, many of the volunteers have been discussing ways of doing something to reunite some of the folks who have previously enjoyed the Llandudno holiday and also to invite new people in from the local area.

Llandudno holiday volunteer Sheila Morris said: ‘We are delighted to be hosting this afternoon tea and bringing everyone together after such a long time. It’s a much needed opportunity for those who used to holiday with us to catch up with old friends, but also to make new ones who can come along on future outings with us.’

The group are planning various outings this year, starting with the afternoon tea party. Tickets to the afternoon tea cost £5.00 per person and include a free raffle ticket. Pre-booking is required, with tickets on sale until 6 May 2022. People wishing to attend will also need to provide their own transport to the venue.
