Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin’s popular walking tennis group in Market Drayton is inviting new members to join the fun.
Meeting every Monday afternoon, 2:30-3:30pm at Market Drayton Tennis Club, this well-loved class offers a slower-paced version of tennis, making it perfect for older people looking to stay active, meet new friends, and enjoy a welcoming social atmosphere.
Whether you're picking up a racket for the first time or revisiting an old hobby, walking tennis is suitable for all. Participants can look forward to an hour of gentle exercise, lots of laughter, and plenty of opportunities to connect with like-minded individuals.
Emma Wilde, Wellbeing Services Manager at Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin said: ‘It’s great to be able to offer walking tennis in Market Drayton, this slowed down version of the game still provides a good work out. With the weekly coach’s support, I’ve seen such an improvement in the players’ games and confidence.’
One of the local players said: ‘I’ve always been competitive, previously playing golf, but walking tennis still allows me to fulfil my competitive nature but in a fun way. It’s one of the best sports I have ever done, and I look forward to playing each week.’
