A wonderful afternoon of friendship and fun

There was plenty of singing, laughter and friendship when Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin hosted two special sing-along fundraising events at Horsehay Village Golf Club this month.

The charity’s members came together to enjoy the classic musical Singin’ in the Rain at special sing-along screenings. But what exactly is a sing-along film? It’s a familiar movie with the lyrics to the songs displayed on screen, giving everyone the chance to join in and sing along with their favourite musical numbers. There’s no pressure to be pitch-perfect, it’s all about having fun!

The events raised valuable funds to support Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin, while also providing a warm, comfortable and relaxing environment where older people could spend time with friends, meet new people and enjoy a shared experience.

Claire Fishlock, Senior Service Development Officer at Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin, said: “These events are about so much more than fundraising. We want to create a welcoming and relaxed space where older people can come together, enjoy themselves and build friendships, while also raising money to help us continue supporting older people across Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin.

Continued Claire: “We’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who came along and joined in, and to Horsehay Village Golf Club for their wonderful hospitality. Their support and affordable pricing have made it possible for us to offer these events to our members and help make them accessible and enjoyable for everyone.”

With plenty of smiles, familiar songs and some enthusiastic singing, the two afternoons proved that a classic film is even better when you can enjoy it together. We look forward to bringing more opportunities like this to our members in the future!
