Supporting people living with dementia

People living with dementia across Shropshire and Telford are encouraged to access a range of specialist support services offered by Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin, helping to improve wellbeing for both individuals and their carers.
Our dementia support groups provide a welcoming and safe environment where people can enjoy companionship, take part in meaningful activities and establish valuable social connections. The groups are also designed to offer support to family members, friends and carers, who can share experiences and access practical advice from others facing similar challenges.
With dementia affecting thousands of families across the county, the service aims to ensure that no one has to face the journey alone.
"Our groups provide more than just activities, they offer friendship and understanding alongside up-to-date relevant information," said Emma Wilde, Interim Head of Wellbeing & Friendship services at Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin. "By getting to know each individual, we can provide compassionate, person-centred support tailored to their needs."
The dementia support groups are led by experienced dementia staff and supported by caring volunteers. Alongside emotional support, attendees can access information and guidance to help them better understand dementia and navigate its challenges.
Support groups are held regularly at Monkmoor, Copthorne, Pontesbury, Ketley Bank, Donnington and Whitchurch. Sessions cost £16 per visit, with the fee covering attendance for two people.
