What do day centre volunteers do?

It's a terrible thing to be lonely. Did you know that 1.2 million older people are chronically lonely? You can do something to help by volunteering at an Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin day centre.

We have a variety of roles available:

Helper
Duties include setting up, welcoming members, serving refreshments, washing up, helping with social activities and chatting to members.

Organiser
Duties include organising a small volunteer team, helping to organise a variety of activities and outings for members and offering company and friendship to the members.

Treasurer
Help the day centre to keep track of their finances and administration.

Minibus escort
Accompany members on the minibus to and from the day centre.

Driver
Use your own car or drive a minibus to provide transport to and from one of our day centres for our members.

What you will get out of it

  • It's a great way to make a real difference to someone's life
  • You'll be giving something to your community
  • You get to be part of Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin's volunteer team
  • Volunteers tell us they find volunteering really rewarding

What is expected of me?

Our day centres take place weekly throughout Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin. Each role is different but usually involves a commitment of a few hours per week, over a long period of time. Volunteers will also need to attend a short training session and provide references. All the roles except Treasurer will require a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, which we will organise for you.
