The Big Knit

The Big Knit bottles

Our target this year was an ambitious 6,000 little knitted hats, the most we have ever had and double our target from 2016.  We are pleased to announce that we have succeeded!! All of the hats we have received are beautiful and we have had some really imaginative ones!

Whether you’re an experienced knitter or a beginner every hat really has made a difference to Age UK Surrey.  For every hat we sent in we receive 25p… that’s £1,500 to help older people in Surrey.

The smoothies, wearing their little hats, will be sold in supermarkets nationwide for several weeks during October 2017.

Please remember to keep on knitting for us to ensure we reach our target next year!  More information will be released soon.

How you can get involved:

Whether you're a professional knitter or have never picked up a pair of knitting needles before we need you! Fear not, it's easy to get started.

Be prepared:

Get yourself comfortable and some needles and wool (we have kindly had some donated to us, please feel free to pop along and pick some up).

Send us your hats:

Package up your lovely hats and get them to us by mid/end of July 2017.

Please send them to us at:

Age UK Surrey, Rex House, William Road, Guildford, Surrey, GU1 4QZ

Share:

Spread the word and show everyone how fabulous your little knitted hats are by posting pictures of them online using #BigKnit.

What happens next?

Look out for all the hats on Innocent smoothie bottles in shops from October 2017.

How the Big Knit helps older people:

Each winter, one older person dies needlessly every seven minutes because of the cold. With over a decade of support from knitters up and down the country, The Big Knit has raised vital funds to support local and national winter projects to help older people keep warm and well in winter through befriending visits, emergency cold weather support, warm meals and other vital services.

The Big Knit is a great way to bring people and communities together. Knitting groups have been held up and down the country for people to get involved, share patterns and have a cup of tea or two!

'The Big Knit campaign couldn't happen without the support of thousands of amazing people across the UK who take part and knit woolly hats to adorn innocent smoothies each year.' Douglas Lamont, CEO at Innocent.
