Age UK Surrey Chair Awarded MBE

Published on 21 June 2018 01:48 PM

We are pleased to announce that our chair, Robert Avis, has been honoured with an MBE for services to the community in Guildford.

For the past ten years Robert has been actively involved on the Board of Age UK Surrey, working hard to improve the quality of life for the people of Surrey in their later years. For a few years he served as vice chair and since 2014 he has been the Chair, dedicating a considerable amount of his time to this role. He continues to be a respected leader who has united and steered the Board to make decisions on major issues which are important to the future success of the charity.

The Board is primarily responsible for ensuring good governance of the charity, but Robert has also encouraged all the trustees to be more interactive with the senior staff to improve mutual understanding of the significant issues facing the charity. Like all of our board members, Robert works in a voluntary capacity, and we are immensely grateful for all the time and work that he and all of our excellent volunteers have committed to helping improve the lives of older people throughout Surrey.
