The Shed
Coming soon in Spring 2026!

Welcome to The Shed, a brand-new community space located at The Hub in Chingford. Whether you are looking to pick up a new hobby, share your years of DIY expertise, or simply enjoy a tea and a chat while working on a project, The Shed is the place for you.
We provide a friendly, inclusive environment where residents can come together to stay active, socialise, and get creative with practical workshops throughout the week.
What’s happening at The Shed?
We offer a variety of sessions designed to appeal to all interests and skill levels. It doesn’t matter if you have never picked up a tool before or if you are a master maker; all abilities are welcome!
- Men’s Shed: A dedicated space for men to connect, converse, and create.
- Open Drop-in: Flexible sessions where you can work on your own projects at your own pace.
- 3D Printing: Explore the future of making with our modern digital tools.
Featured Project: Build a Bench with Ralph
To celebrate our upcoming launch, we are starting a flagship project: building a community bench! This is a collaborative project led by Ralph, and we are looking for people to help bring it to life. Whether you want to learn how to measure and cut, or you’re an old hand at assembly and finishing, we would love your help. It’s a great way to get a feel for The Shed before we fully open our doors.
Register your interest: If you would like to get involved in the bench-building project, please email Ralph at r.petrie@ageukwalthamforest.org.uk to sign up.
Get Creative
You are also welcome to bring your own ideas for projects, from garden planters and furniture to smaller items like spice racks or key shelves. Anything is a possibility! If you aren't sure where to start, we can provide project ideas and support you through the entire making process.
How you can help
Donate Materials
To keep our projects (like our community bench!) running, we are always looking for donations of:
- Old tools (in good working condition)
- Natural timber and offcuts (e.g., kitchen worktop offcuts, pallets, or any natural timber)
Volunteer with us
Are you an experienced maker? We are looking for skilled volunteers to work alongside Ralph and help support our members. If you have a background in woodworking, repairs, or digital making, we would love to hear from you.
