As you age it is normal for vision changes and hearing loss to occur. Two of our most vital senses, they play a huge role in maintaining independence and staying connected. Did you know that those changes in your vision and hearing can increase your risk of falling? Having your vision and hearing checked regularly can help to prevent a fall.
What should I do to look after my eye health?
✅ Have your eyes checked regularly, can detect early signs of eye diseases.
✅ If you need glasses, look after them and have your prescription checked regularly
✅ Maintain good lighting throughout your home.
✅ Protecting your eyes from the sun
✅ Eating a balanced diet and limiting how much alcohol you drink
Don’t assume that if you can still read the newspaper or watch television that your eyesight is fine. This is not necessarily true. Changes can occur gradually over time, which you may not notice until there’s a significant deterioration.

How much do eye and hearing tests cost?
If can get your eye test NHS funded if you:
- Are aged 60 or over
- Aged between 16-18 and in full time education
- Under 15 years
- Registered as partially sighted or blind
- Diagnosed with diabetes or glaucoma
