Update to Handyperson Service Charges from 1st July 2026
Age UK Cambridgeshire & Peterborough will be introducing a small charge for the supply and installation of grab rails from 1st July 2026.
Due to changes in local authority funding, we are no longer able to continue providing this element of our service free of charge. From this date, grab rails will be charged at £25 per rail, including supply and installation.
We know that grab rails and similar adaptations play a vital role in helping people feel safe and confident in their own homes. That is why we have worked hard to keep this cost as low as possible, ensuring the service remains accessible to the people who need it most.
We believe £25 per grab rail represents excellent value for money, particularly as our service offers far more than the installation of a single item. Our trained Handyperson team take a holistic approach, working with individuals in their homes to understand their needs and make practical improvements that support safety, independence and everyday comfort.
Our service is delivered by experienced, DLF Trusted Assessor trained staff, who can identify simple but effective solutions that make a real difference. Whether supporting someone to remain independent at home or helping them return home safely following a hospital stay, our focus is always on providing personalised, compassionate support.
We remain committed to doing everything we can to minimise the impact of funding changes on local people and to continue delivering high-quality, trusted services across our communities.
If you, or someone you know, would like to find out more about how we can help, we encourage you to get in touch to talk through your needs.
