Reimagining the Past, Protecting the Future
Created by older members of our community, this artwork explores climate change through creativity, reuse, and shared experiences.
Inspired by climate awareness work from Age Cymru, the group transformed everyday materials destined for landfill — including cardboard, plastic, glass, and packaging — into a mediaeval village and a 1940s farm. Through this project, we wanted to show how discarded items can be reimagined into something meaningful while encouraging conversations around sustainability, climate change, and the value of reducing waste.
More than an art piece, this project fostered friendship, creativity, and a strong sense of community spirit. Time spent creating together supported wellbeing, encouraged connection, and celebrated the skills, stories, and imagination of older people.
We extend heartfelt thanks to everyone who took part and special thanks to Marian Sandham, our resident community artist, whose creativity, encouragement, and guidance helped bring this vision to life.
