Walking Football event - potential new players welcome

Published on 14 September 2023 11:25 AM

On September 20th we are inviting existing and potential new Walking Football players to a social event at Goals on Hall Road, between 1 – 3pm. The event is a celebration of the local Walking Football initiative where potential new players can try out the game and meet other members of the Norwich-based teams.

Following some matches, there’ll be a buffet and mini award ceremony, where Age UK Norwich staff will be presenting medals and awards to some players from the past season.

The local Walking Football initiative is free of charge to members and is funded by Age UK, Sport England and The FA. It’s aimed at football lovers who haven’t played for a while and is a chance to enjoy the game in a slower-paced, friendly and fun atmosphere. The teams are open to all, including those who have never played football and those who are living with long-term health conditions.

Joe McGuire, Health and Community Outreach Officer at Age UK Norwich said

“Our walking football groups aren’t just great for your health, they’re good for your social life too. We hope to get some potential new players along to this event so they can give it a go, meet some of the team and find out a bit more. It’s a great way to stay active in later life and we’re a really friendly bunch, so why not give it a go?”

The event on the 20th is free of charge, although donations to Age UK Norwich are welcome. If you’d like to attend or get involved in Walking Football, please email activities@ageuknorwich.org.uk or call Joe on 07780 325362.  We run Walking Football clubs at The Arena, UEA Sportspark and Goals.
