Clive Lewis MP Visits 'Veterans Recall' Club

Published on 03 July 2026 05:07 PM

Age UK Norwich welcomed Clive Lewis MP to 'Veterans Recall' - our Military Reminisence Group.

A Veteran himself, Mr Lewis came to see first hand why groups such as these are crucial to members, who all shared how being part of the group brought back the comradery of the forces - very much a "pull up a sand bag" feeling as said by one lady.

The group that meets monthly at Pilling Park is run by Veterans, for Veterans, and it has been a long-standing club, which Age UK Norwich oversees and facilitates.

Members today included those who had served in the Norfolk Regiment, Women's RAF, Army Catering Corp, The Rifles with posts in Aden, Afghanistan, Northern Ireland, Korea and Christmas Island to name a few.

Our groups are aimed at keeping people connected, reducing loneliness, being active and out in the community, and feeling part of something. It also enables us to look out for issues where we can help with other Age UK Services and to prevent issues by sharing information and guidance.

The group is always looking for new members, or people who fancy dropping in to share a story or two, regalia or military history. If you are interested to find out more, contact enquiries@ageuknorwich.org.uk.

Dan Skipper, Chief Executive Officer said "Ex-service men and women often live with higher levels of ill-health and disability, and are at higher risk of homeliness and suicide, so keeping this group running is a must. As the NHS/Social Care looks to community solutions to help manage health and wellbeing - they need to look no further than clubs like Veterans Recall that helps manage mental and physical health, reduce risks of escalation, and need for care. They should be invested in and grown."
