EDP Court Article

Published on 06 May 2021 08:50 AM

This morning the 6th May the EDP has reported a case at Norwich Crown Court in regard to a volunteer of Age UK Norfolk (see link to article).

Age UK is a federation network of 100+ local, independent charities. They were founded on the importance of offering local services and understanding the needs of their local area.

Age UK Norwich and Age UK Norfolk are two separate, independent charities, but we work towards similar goals and values for older people, as part of the Age UK Network. As this case is in reference to Age UK Norfolk it would not be appropriate for us to comment in regard to the details of this case.  We  would, however, like to confirm that Age UK Norwich does not provide any services that involve us handling money or card payments for our clients.

Age UK Norwich does provide support to people who need help financially. We provide independent, free advice on what our older people are entitled to and help them make sense of the forms and documents needed to apply. We also provide budgeting support and help with debt counselling and are regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) for this activity.  We also purchase emergency hardship items for older people through our grant giving, which is paid for by our fundraising or donors. .

All staff and volunteers who directly support our clients are police checked through the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) and are regularly supervised.
