World Alzheimer's Day at the Aquarium

Published on 27 September 2022 08:28 AM

The team from Age UK Plymouth’s Dementia Day Centre based in Plymstock, enjoyed a very special visit to the National Marine Aquarium in the heart of the Barbican to mark World Alzheimer’s Day on Wednesday 21st September.

To mark the day, which takes place during World Alzheimer’s Month, the Aquarium hosted an evening session of Quiet at the Aquarium specifically for those living with Dementia to enjoy the incredible animals and exhibits at the attraction in a calmer and quieter setting.

“I took my mum to Ocean Memories, we really enjoyed the whole experience – it was a great idea. Now that we’ve been and feel familiar with the aquarium I even upgraded my ticket to an annual pass.”

Teams from the aquarium have also recently welcomed our Dementia and Wellbeing Lead, Tammy Walker, who led a Dementia Friends Session in support of our commitment to make Plymouth a Dementia Friendly Community.
