Acorn Singers receive generous donation

Members of the Acorn Singers, one of the many wellbeing activity groups organised by Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin, are enjoying a welcome boost thanks to the generosity of Ironbridge & Severn Gorge Lions Club.
The singers, who meet every Wednesday afternoon in Hadley, Telford, received a donation of 25 music stands from the Lions Club. The practical gift will make a real difference to their weekly sessions, helping members to enjoy singing together more comfortably and confidently.
Lions Club Treasurer Graham Powell recently visited an Acorn Singers session to see first-hand the positive impact the donation will have. During his visit, he met members of the group and saw the important role music plays in bringing people together to reduce loneliness, supporting mental wellbeing and creating lasting friendships.
The Acorn Singers is a lively, welcoming group for older people who simply love to sing. The sessions are all about having fun and enjoying music, based on the belief that everyone has a unique voice and that anyone can sing, regardless of experience or ability.
Claire Fishlock, Senior Service Development Officer at Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin, said: "We are incredibly grateful to Ironbridge & Severn Gorge Lions Club for their generous donation of these much-needed music stands. They will make a significant difference to our members by allowing them to use our two song books simultaneously, helping our sessions run more smoothly and making them more accessible for people with mobility issues or those living with dementia. Donations like this demonstrate that support from local organisations or businesses can be just as valuable as a financial contribution, enabling us to enhance the experience of our groups in practical ways that have an immediate impact."
The donation is a wonderful example of how local organisations can work together to support older people in the community, helping Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin continue to provide activities that promote wellbeing, reduce loneliness and encourage people to stay active and connected.
