Giving Tuesday

Published on 20 November 2018 11:46 AM

Giving Tuesday is on 27 November 2018. You can support Age UK Solihull by giving money, time, something you make or something you no longer need. Here are some ideas of things you could give to help us to continue to improve the lives of older people in Solihull.

  • Donate

Last year we received £26,657 in donations. We are so very grateful for these donations as they enable us to provide vital services to help local older people.

If you are able to donate, any amount can make a huge difference. £5 could pay for a volunteer to visit an older person in their home, £10 could pay for a volunteer to make a home visit to help complete an Attendance Allowance form, £20 could buy an electric blanket, keeping older people living in cold homes warm, and £35 could pay for a trained instructor to deliver our high quality strength and balance classes for those at risk of falls.

  • Volunteer

If you can spare some time, volunteering is an incredibly rewarding way to help us help older people. There are many volunteer roles available, including visiting lonely older people in their homes as a befriender, driving clients to our classes, and helping at clubs and fundraising events.

  • Knit!

We are once again taking part in The Big Knit with Innocent Drinks, where we collect miniature knitted hats to be put on top of smoothie bottles which will be sold in stores. We receive 25p per hat, and we are about halfway to our target of 9,327, so any help with getting there would be much appreciated!

  • Get sponsored

Fancy a challenge? Why not raise some money by doing a sponsored run, walk cycle, parachute jump, mountain climb!? If you are not the athletic or daredevil type, what about a sponsored silence or day of isolation to get a glimpse of the loneliness faced by many older people? Have a look at our fundraising page for more ideas and to download a fundraising pack.

  • Have a clear out

Make some room before Christmas and donate the things you no longer need to one of our four charity shops.

  •  Organise an event

Have a bake sale, host a coffee morning, or run a raffle.

  • Get talking

If you like what we do, spread the word! Write a blog post, share on social media or even just tell someone about us.

Don't forget to let us know what you are planning to give. If you share on social media, use the hashtag #GivingTuesday and tag us so we can see. We will be sure to shout about your generosity!
