Age UK West Sussex, Brighton & Hove Membership Terms & Conditions

Welcome to our membership program. By subscribing to our £5 monthly membership, you agree to the following terms and conditions. Please read them carefully. 

Membership provides access to our paid-for services, centres and cafes. Specific benefits may vary and are subject to availability. Detailed descriptions of included services can be found on our website or by contacting our team. 

Membership options 

  • Monthly membership: rolling contract at £5 per month, cancellable with notice (see cancellation policy below). 
  • Annual membership: prepaid contract at £60 per year. 

Your membership begins upon receipt of the first payment. Members will receive confirmation via email or post with their membership details. 

Payment terms 

  • Monthly memberships are billed on a recurring basis. Payments are due on the same day each month as the initial payment date.
  • Annual memberships require a one-time upfront payment. 
  • Payments can be made via credit/debit card, direct debit, or other accepted methods. 

Cancellation policy 

Monthly Membership (£5 Direct Debit)

  • Members who cancel within 14 days of joining (cooling-off period) are entitled to a full refund, providing the member has not used any services.
  • Members can cancel their membership at any time by providing 30 days notice before their next payment date.
  • No refunds will be issued for the current month, but the membership will remain active until the end of the paid period.

Annual Membership (£60 One-Off Payment)

  • Members who cancel within 14 days of joining (cooling-off period) are entitled to a full refund, providing the member has not used any services.
  • After the 14-day period, refunds will not be issued for the current month. However, from the second month onwards, members can request a refund for the remaining months of their membership if they provide at least 30 days' notice. The membership will remain active until the paid period ends.
  • To prevent automatic renewal for the following year, members must inform us at least 30 days before their renewal date.

Exceptional Circumstances
In cases of financial hardship, serious illness, or bereavement, we will review cancellation requests on a case-by-case basis.

Cooling-off period
New members are entitled to a 14-day cooling-off period from the date of subscription. If no services have been used during this period, members may cancel and receive a full refund. 

Membership changes 
We reserve the right to make changes to membership benefits, pricing, or terms. Members will be notified at least 30 days in advance of any significant changes. If you do not agree to the changes, you may cancel your membership without penalty. 

Refund policy 
Refunds are not provided for partially used monthly memberships unless exceptional circumstances apply (e.g. medical reasons). Annual memberships are eligible for prorated refunds as outlined above. 

Member conduct  
Members are expected to adhere to the rules and guidelines of the charity in our activity classes, gym, centres and cafes. Failure to do so may result in suspension or termination of membership without refund. 

Eligibility and right to refuse membership 
Membership is subject to approval and is not guaranteed. We reserve the right to refuse, suspend, or revoke membership at our sole discretion, including (but not limited to) where an individual has previously breached our terms, demonstrated inappropriate behaviour at our centres or events, or where we believe granting membership would not be in the best interest of our organisation or its members. Any such decisions will be made fairly and with due consideration of the circumstances. 

Data protection 
We are committed to protecting your privacy. Personal information provided during the membership process will be used solely for administrative and communication purposes in line with our Privacy Policy. 

Liability  
We are not liable for any loss, damage or injury sustained by members while using our services, except where such liability cannot be excluded by law.
