Introduction
At Age UK Bristol, we want to change the way we age. We aim to keep people aged 55+ well and active, encouraging Bristol to be an Age Friendly city. We do this in 3 ways - through providing practical help and supporting people’s emotional and physical wellbeing in a range of ways depending on their needs. In addition, we want to prevent people from needing our help wherever possible. We do this in our strategic work, where we aim to create the conditions for older adults to remain healthy and independent.
Our organisational objectives are to
- Provide top-quality services and support to all older people in Bristol.
- Lead and enable collaboration between other organisations working with older people in Bristol.
- Influence public spending and policies in a way that benefits older people in the city.
- Promote positive attitudes to ageing in Bristol.

Purpose of Events Volunteer
The purpose of the Events Volunteer is to help and support with the smooth running of our events. This role is vital for Age UK Bristol to raise awareness of the issues facing older people and champion our cause to the wider public.
The role involves
As an events volunteer, you will play an important role in running our events. Our events include everything from stalls at information events, fundraising stalls at summer and Christmas fairs, appearances at health care events and demonstrations to supporting us at FAB events.
You will have the opportunity to meet and engage with members of the public from all walks of life, our wonderful staff, service users and volunteers. This is a lively and varied role, giving you the opportunity to take part in lots of difference occasions and experiences. One day you may be part of a bucket collection at your local supermarket, the next, setting up for one of our many public events throughout the year.
Tasks may include but are not limited to
- Helping set up and attend event spaces and stalls.
- Distributing information on our services at events.
- Encouraging the public to donate or fundraise for us.
- Participating in fundraising and FAB events.
- Promoting our various fundraising efforts to attendees of events.
- Be a champion of Age UK Bristol’s work in our community.
The qualities and skills required for this role are
- An interest in improving lives of older people across Bristol
- Enjoys a variety of responsibiliites
- Confidence in engaging with members of the public
- To have an understanding of the needs of older people
- To have an understanding of the barriers older people may face
- Punctuality and reliability when attending events.
- No previous volunteering experience is required

Time commitment
There is no minimum commitment or set hours, as opportunities to contribute will arise throughout the year and members can choose activities that match their skills, interests and availability. We are particularly keen to hear from those willing to volunteer at events during evening and weekends, although we are still very appreciative of those looking to volunteer during the week.
Training
We offer induction and ongoing support to help you feel confident in your role, along with other relevant training opportunities.
Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Check
This role does not require a Basic DBS check.
Location
This is a flexible role that will require attendance to events across Bristol. There may also be opportunities to participate online as well as occasionally in person meetings at the Age UK Bristol offices, or community venues.
Expenses
We reimburse all reasonable expenses associated with the role, for instance travel.
