New dementia group opening in Hertfordshire

Published on 24 May 2021 12:22 PM

Hertswise Dementia Service is opening a new activity group on Wednesday 26th May in Hatfield for people living with dementia and their carers.

The groups are a chance for members and their carers to get involved with a range of activities whether as part of a group or on an individual basis.

The session will be held at Birchwood Leisure Centre every Wednesday from 26th May, 2.30pm - 4pm with COVID-19 safety measures and PPE in place.

Adam Thapar, Head of Community Dementia Services, says: “We can’t wait to have the grand opening of our new group in Hatfield. To have another group in Hertfordshire is great for the community.”

“I am hopeful for the new Hatfield group. Our support groups have run digitally for the last year and Covid has not been easy on anybody, let alone those living with dementia.” says Connor Skelsey, Locality Worker for Welwyn & Hatfield. He continues: “We have a duty to our older generation, and a duty to the upstanding members of Hatfield town.”

If you would like to find out more information about attending the Hatfield group, or could spare a few hours each week to volunteer at the group, please contact Connor on Welhat@hertswise.org.uk or 07538 471 383.
