A free service for those most lonely, isolated and vulnerable.
A volunteer is carefully matched to provide friendly companionship and support, offering a lifeline to the outside world.
This service has been available throughout Horsham District for many years and some of our volunteers have been visiting clients for much of that time.
Support and friendship
All our trained visitors have provided references, had DBS clearance and carry an Age UK Horsham District identification card.
The Home Visiting coordinator visits the potential client to discover their interests, situation etc and will find the most suitable volunteer visitor.
Then the coordinator will bring the volunteer to the client’s home for an introductory meeting. If all goes well, the volunteer and client will arrange a mutually convenient time for the next visit.
Following on, the visitor will pop in for tea and a chat for about an hour once a week and maybe accompany the client on a walk round their garden.
The visitor can also provide information about the various services available from Age UK Horsham District, such as: Information and Advice, Housing Options, Help at Home, Hubs and Clubs etc.
Not only does this service enable the people being visited to access a full life style of their choice but can also lead to a lasting friendship with their visitor.
How much does it cost?
This is a free service provided by Age UK Horsham District.

Could you be a Home Visiting volunteer?
Our visitors lend a listening ear and a caring, sensitive approach to the emotional and practical needs of older people, since this is often their only link to the wider community.
If you have a friendly manner and can easily start and continue a conversation, you might be able to help an older person who doesn't see many people or is housebound and therefore socially isolated.
If you are interested in becoming a volunteer visitor, please call 01403 260560 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
