Celebrating Shelley’s 9 Years of Care, Support and Dedication at Age UK Isle of Wight.

This year 2026, marks a very special milestone for Shelley, our Client Care Officer for the Just About You service, as she celebrates 9 years with Age UK Isle of Wight.

Shelley plays an important role in supporting the smooth running of Just About You, known as JAY, our home help service that supports older people across the Island with practical help at home. From supporting our team of Support Workers to speaking with clients, families, friends, neighbours and professionals, Shelley is the friendly and reassuring voice you will probably hear at the end of the phone.

Reflecting on her time with Age UK Isle of Wight, Shelley said:

“The time has flown by. I’ve seen many changes. I first started in the community, so I managed to meet some lovely clients who we still support now. I still get to chat with them over the phone on a regular basis. I love to hear all the stories they have and be able to support them with our wonderful team of Support Workers.”

For Shelley, the people are at the heart of what makes her role so special.

“I love my job and the people I work with, both clients and Support Workers, and office staff. I’ve met some amazing people. It’s a job I look forward to coming into every day. Hopefully my bubbly personality rubs off on others!”

As a Client Care Officer, Shelley supports a team of Support Workers who provide home help assistance with a wide range of daily tasks. This can include housework, meal preparation, shopping, gardening and companionship, depending on what each person needs.

“We provide a varied range of help to support our clients in the best way we can,” Shelley explained. “I answer daily calls from existing and new clients, as well as their families, friends, neighbours and other professionals who may be referring someone in for support.”

One of the things Shelley enjoys most about working with clients through JAY is being there for people when they need a bit of extra support.

“Being there for them, being a friendly, cheerful voice on the end of the line, being a listening ear, and being able to make a difference to their lives for the better is what I enjoy most.”

Services like Just About You can make a real difference for older people who want to remain independent at home, while also giving reassurance to those around them.

Shelley said:

“JAY helps enable our clients to live safely at home for as long as they can and gives peace of mind to loved ones that they have the support they need.”

For anyone who may be thinking about getting some extra support at home, but feels unsure about reaching out, Shelley’s message is simple:

“We are here to help you or your loved ones in a person-centred approach, which is adaptable with their needs, from our wonderful team of caring Support Workers. Please always feel free to call and have a chat with us. We are more than happy to help in any way we can.”

A huge thank you to Shelley for everything she has given to Age UK Isle of Wight over the last 9 years, and for the care, kindness and dedication she continues to bring to her role every day.
